Here we are, 15 months later. I wish I could say Amy is doing better, but she's not. After multiple stays in ICU, she is being sent to the National Jewish Health Center in Denver, CO. Of course, travel and lodging isn't covered by insurance, and there's going to be substantial co-pays. Any assistance, financial or with Marriott points towards her hotel, would be deeply appreciated.

PHASE 2: Thank you all SO FREAKIN' MUCH! You helped Amy pay for many medication and hospital copays and really helped reduce her stress for those issues. You ROCK!
Due to the situation you read about in Amy's latest update, she, Erik and the weiner dog herd are going to be relocating to Lubbock, Texas this fall. I am extending this fundraiser to see if we can help defray those costs as well.
This is not a request for more money from any of you fantabulous donors! But I am asking if you could please pass this along via any route you wish.
Again: YOU ALL ROCK. Thank you!

This campaign is to help raise funding to help my dear long-time friend Amy pay her medical bills. We've been friends for... uh... a really long time and it kills me to hear what she's going through and be unable to help her more. (The picture above is from her wedding, 15 years ago.)
Amy has had to take medical retirement from a job she loved, as a law librarian, because of her medical issues. Thanks to the ACA she and her husband Erik aren't completely lost, but the copays are horrendous. She has to take a bunch of expensive medicine to help her breathe, but often has negative reactions to those and ends up in the ER. The discs in her spine are degenerating, and she'll be going in for her second majory spine surgery soon. In addition, that degradation is causing increased neuropathy in her feet and hands. So she's on a lot of expensive pain and nausea management meds as well.
Amy and Erik are still in paperwork limbo waiting for her medical retirement and SSDI to go through; in the meantime he's working like mad, taking as many extra hours as he can get at the hospital he works at to help pay their living expenses. Amy's parents are contributing what they can, but they're retired and have their own financial limitations; Amy's sister has also been helping as much as she can.
So I'm asking for help for Amy. Just a few dollars added to the pot would go a long way towards helping her out. I'm trying to raise enough to cover the co-pays on three month's worth of medications to take a bit of the pressure off while they work their way through the legal paperwork.
All I can offer is my thanks and gratitude for helping a stranger out. Thank you.
