A Final Farewell to Sam

Donation protected
I am Sam's daughter, Samantha, and I created this gofundme to help my mom with planning a final farewell to my Dad, Sam. My Dad was diagnosed with Covid-19 on 12/6/21, and was hospitalized on 12/10/21. After a week of being on oxygen, and failing to improve, he was put on a ventilator. My Dad was on a ventilator for three weeks, before ultimately passing due to deterioration throughout his whole body.

My Dad was a proud husband, a proud father, Papou, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a true comedian, and even in his last weeks he made sure to hold on to positivity. The last message I have in my phone between him and I was me asking how he was feeling that day (while he was in the hospital, on oxygen). His response, "Eh, I've been better. Lol." Before being intubated, he asked me to make sure his friends on Facebook knew he was going to be "AFK" for a while. On the first attempt at extubation, when asked if there was anything he needed, he responded, "a Guinness."

He was a sailor, a photographer, and a Veteran who served his country with pride.

We want to send my Dad off into his final journey with as much love as he gave to this world. I am asking for help to offset any costs my Mother will incur not only for his final farewell, but for medical bills as well.

I appreciate any donation, big or small, or just a prayer that my Dad has fair winds and following seas on his final journey.

His Final Farewell will be a celebration of his life on May 14th at the Pine Beach Yacht Club, a very special place to him and my family.

No more a watch to stand, Old Sailor
For you are drifting on an ebbing tide
Eight Bells has rung, Dog Watch is done
A new berth waits you on the other side.

Your ship is anchored in God's Harbor
And though his sailors are of equal rank
There'll be shipmates on the deck to greet you
And Pipe, as you ascend the plank.

Her boilers with full head of steam
Cargo stowed, and galley stored
Just waiting to get underway,
When the last hand comes aboard

Look sharp! That hand is you, Old Sailor
And you'll be sailing out on Heavenly seas
So may the wind be ever at your back
Fair weather, and God Speed.

I love you forever, Pops.
