HMUA Trainee Course

Hi! My name is Teresa Reynolds, I'm a celebrity Makeup Artist and the founder of Incredible Brilliant Youth, a social enterprise I set up in 2012 with the purpose of helping young people improve their confidence and access to opportunities. To date I have worked with over 2000 young people across the south of England through workshops, talks and courses on beauty, self-esteem, education, and employment. I've partnered with Hair and Makeup Designer Pip Woods, and together we have been looking at why there is such a lack of diversity in the hair and makeup sector in TV and Film, and believe part of the reason could be to do with the fact that initial training is so expensive.  Some of the hair and makeup schools require over £12,000 for a 4-month course which means this has become an elitist industry only accessible by those in privileged positions with the financial support to cover them during this period of time. We want to breakdown the barriers to entry and systemic inequality, and we'd love for you to join us on this journey. To do our part in changing this, we are going to be offering free training to Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority aspiring makeup artists, through our Complete HMUA Course which will give them all the necessary skills they need to enter the industry covering everything they would learn in some of the top end makeup schools. We'll be drawing on our experience to give them as much knowledge and support as we can. We are giving our time and skills for free but need some help with the students' kit and expenses. We would love to provide each student with a complete makeup and hair kit, cover the cost of their travel to our London teaching base and their lunch. Any donations you could give would be gratefully received and would go towards helping some amazing young people get the support they need to achieve their dreams. Through Incredible Brilliant Youth (IBY) I have witnessed the success of my beneficiaries, seeing them progress in education, gain employment, and improve their self-belief. In past makeup courses with Incredible Brilliant Youth, 91% of participants said they felt more confident after taking part and 100% of the participants agreed that the skills they had gained would be helpful in the future. We're going to be launching the Complete HMUA course on Monday 13th July, starting with online sessions and then moving on to socially distanced classes. The course will run for six weeks in total. We know that this is a short time for fundraising but we wanted to do as much as we can whilst our schedules allowed for full time training. After this we will be running masterclasses for our students lead by industry experts and will be providing ongoing support.
