Marine Corps HMM-268 Reunion
Donation protected
I first want to thank you for taking the time to read this. My name is Joseph Hummel and I served in the Marine Corps from 1999 – 2004. While serving in the Marine Corps, I was a 6172/Ch-46E Helicopter CrewChief with Helicopter Marine Medium (HMM-268). During my 5 years in the Marine Corps I served 2 deployments. One in 2001 were we traveled on a Westpac, and another in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
The reason for me writing this is that the group of Marines that I had the pleasure of serving with were together in 2001 and 2003, had been through some life changes together. In that time, we stood on the boat together on September 11th when the planes hit the World Trade Center, and ready to turn the ship around and go back out. When then we deployed to Iraq in February of 2003 in which in the first night of the war we lost a helicopter which took the lives of 4 of our Marines.
This June we have put together a Reunion to not only remember those who we have lost but to also remember the good times we had over 12 years ago. Many of us have gone back home to our communities through the United States after serving our country, or continued serving and are deployed around the globe. Many Marines are currently going to school, working, raising a family, and do not have the finances to make the trip to the Reunion. As we all know times change and lives change but the love for our Marine Corps brothers does not.
Any gift that you give will help make sure that we can get those Marines that are not able to attend a chance to visit with those they fought next too and trusted with thier own lives. Thank you!
