David was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer two weeks ago after routine appendix surgery. The cancer has already spread, and David is considered Stage 4. While the cancer s not considered curable, it can be treatable with the best care. David currently has insurance through Healthcare.gov but cover the most advance treatments or any treatment out of state.
The best chance he will have to survive will be at a hospital and procedures, more advanced than covered by many insurance policies. David needs one of the most complicated types of cancer surgery called Cytoreduction with Hipec, and without this particular surgery, he will have little chance of survival. His prognosis very much depends on David getting to a surgeon who is a specialist in this area. Any delays in David's treatment will also significantly reduce his chance of survival.
David also hopes to take advantage of Non-FDA approved treatment under the new "Right to Try Legislation" but most of these treatments are not covered by insurance.
David has two children a daughter Darby who David and his former wife adopted from India as an infant and a son Colin.
For the past twelve (12) years, David has been a single parent to his son, Colin, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum when he was about 15 months old. Colin has very little speech and needs full-time care from his dad.
In May 2019, his grandmother who was also a primary caregiver in his home passed away. Colin spent months sitting on her bed waiting for her to come back home because he did not fully understand her death. This was very traumatic to Colin as well as David.
Colin's mother, Donna Galler, moved to California years ago after her future husband relocated there due to employment. Just a month ago, Donna discovered she had a reoccurrence of breast cancer and now also stage four.
David is doing all he can in search of any and all options to prolong his life for his son, Colin. David does not want him to go through any more traumatic experiences or having him live with strangers.
David is a native of Atlanta and graduated with honors from the University of Georgia and the Georgia State University College of Law. For the last 30 years, his law firm has represented thousands of families with debt problems, personally filing over ten thousand bankruptcy cases.
