As Deputy Gabbi (Sexton) of the Great Synagogue of Tel Aviv
(Orthodox), I was horrified to read about the terror attack against our fellow Jews in the Tree of Life Or L'Simcha Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, moments after Shabbat went out. What we know at this time is at least 8 Jews have been murdered and multiple wounded along with 3 law enforcement officers.
We are waiting for additional information and will report as it comes available.
We are raising the funds to help the synagogue increase security by hiring armed trained professionals to secure future religious services and all functions in the building. Any additional funds raised may be dispersed by the synagogue to the grieving families, as needed. All funds raised will be transferred directly to the synagogue by Gofundme the organizer will have no contact with the funds.
Our sages teach us "All of Israel is Responsible for Each Other." (Shevuot 39a).
I call upon all of my Jewish brothers and sisters worldwide, regardless of denomination, to join hands at this moment in time, and help this synagogue properly defend and secure its worshipers.
I conclude with a line from the Av HaRachamim Prayer from the Shabbat Service: "May our Lord remember them for good together with the other righteous of the world and may He redress the spilled blood of His servants, as it is written in the Torah of Moses the man of God: O nations, make His people rejoice for He will redress the blood of His servants He will retaliate against His enemies and appease His land and His people".
