Hope for Smiles

My father, Chuck Ainsworth was a philanthropist who loved making people smile.  He was a kind man with a loveable spirit who welcomed all with open arms.   He brought joy to many through his stories, his music, and his warm and friendly smile.  He volunteered at local nursing homes, spreading cheer by playing guitar and singing for the elderly. During a trip to Mississippi to visit his mother, he stopped at a diner with his brother-in-law (and best buddy), Ted Craven.  Chuck and Ted were served by a friendly waitress, and Chuck couldn't help to notice that her teeth were in very poor shape.  Chuck and Ted learned that she was a single mother on a low income, struggling to make ends meet.  Earlier that year, Chuck's father, W.C. Ainsworth, passed away and he was left with a small inheritance.  With some extra "cash in his pocket", Chuck decided that he wanted to do something special for this stranger he had just met. 

After returning to California, Chuck inquired about a reputable dentist in Mississippi near the diner in which the waitress worked.  After locating a dentist, he contacted the diner to ask for the waitress' name and made an anonymous donation to the dentist in hopes that she would get a beautiful smile that she could be proud of.  One year later, Chuck returned to the diner to introduce himself and was able to see the beautiful smile that he helped give to this young woman (his family is currently searching for the photograph showing her new smile). 

After feeling elated from this experience, Chuck wanted to establish a non-profit organization called Hope for Smiles. He even went so far as to create business cards, but didn't have the chance to implement his idea. 

Chuck passed away on August 17, 2015, after succumbing to brain cancer. In honor of Chuck, his wife, children, and grandchildren are setting up this gofundme site in the name of Hope for Smiles. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for underprivileged children in need of dentistry.  The money raised will be donated to an established non-profit charitable foundation to give people...Hope for Smiles.
