Brain Tumor Fight Round 2
Donation protected
Our dear friend and coworker, Van, very recently had surgery for a 2nd resection of Anaplastic Meningioma Grade III (malignant brain tumor). During this time she is out of work. The first brain tumor she fought took all of her vacation and sick time. Medical bills took her savings. Van is an incredible inpsiration to myself and others. She is one of the strongest women I have ever met. Van helps people every single day but does not want to be a burden to others. It is not a burden but a BLESSING to be able to set this up for Van. Please assist us in raising funds to cover expenses while she is out of work. NO ONE should have to worry about paying for housing or basic needs while recovering.
The following statement is from Van.
Again, a strong woman who has made SUCH an impact on our lives:
On August 2, 2013 I scheduled an appointment with my primary care doctor due to symptoms of headaches and tremors in my right leg. She scheduled a CAT scan immediately following the appointment. The CAT scan revealed a golf ball size tumor. Shortly therafter, I lost the use of my right arm and leg. I underwent a series of medical exams and was admitted and scheduled for surgery on August 5th. My hospital and rehabilitation stay was followed by three months of radiation treatment and therapy (occupational and physical). On August 14, 2013, I received a call from a physician at Duke informing me of a diagnosis of Anaplastic Meningioma, Grade III. I was devastated! I cried... and I cried. Then I decided instead of focusing on death, I want to focus on living. I am committed to enjoying life, friends and family.
Two years later on August 3, 2015 during a routine MRI scan, a second tumor was discovered. One always hopes the cancer is gone and to hear otherwise is heartbreaking. However, I am convinced that having a positive attitude contributes to healing. So I’ll have a second surgery, I’ll do the radiation, and whatever else my doctors prescribe for me because I choose to live well and enjoy a productive life with my family and friends. I choose to continue to cheer for all the people dealing with brain tumors and to help raise funds for research to support finding a cure for this disease. Thank you for your love and support of the fight against cancer.
