Shelly & George's Get Healthy Fund
Donation protected
I started this fundraiser to help my in laws pay some unexpected medical bills due to George's cancer diagnosis and a recent flare up of Shelly's Sarcoidosis with an infection in her lungs which currently has her in ICU at Danville Geisinger.
To tell you a little bit about them and why I chose to start this, well, if you have had the pleasure of meeting or getting to know these 2 wonderful people you already know how giving and selfless they are. Shelly and George will always do anything they can to help anyone in need. Even if it means giving them a place to stay or the shirt off their backs. I have never met anyone as conpassionate and giving as them.
Shelly volunteers at our local state park running a FREE arts n crafts program every summer. She does over 700 hours of community service every year and that is putting it mildly. She runs Earth Day programs at several local parks and recreation centers and George has helped volunteer at the park museum and for several different workshops throughout the years. They both do all of this living with health issues and never once complaining or letting their ailments hold them back. Most people don't even know they are sick. They are always happy and positive, truly "glass is half full" people.. I admire their positive outlook so much, it has changed me deeply within my own view of life.
George has already survived kidney cancer which he was diagnosed with over 15 years ago, he broke his back in an accident while working in the steel mills and lives with Diabetes and the eye degeneration complications which often accompany long term diabetes. Recently George found a lump in his chest which has now been diagnosed as stage 1 Breast Cancer. We are in the process of seeing doctors to seek treatment.
Shelly was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and a form of Lupus almost 20 years ago. She has already outlived the doctor's expectancy for her. She has had 2 knee replacements and several shoulder operations to help with tendon and muscle deterioration from prolonged use of steroids to control the Sarcoids. She most recently had Gastric Bypass surgery to aleviate some of the stomach issues associated with long term medication uses and help her to loose weight without too much stress physically adding to her already delicate tendons and muscles. To date Shelly has lost over 70 lbs preparing for her surgery. Everything was going great until she came home sunday post surgery and started throwing up. Unable to keep anything down we headed back to Danville monday night. They got her nausea under control pretty quickly but her oxygen levels became unstable and they had to move her to icu and put in a breathing tube. They hope to remove that tomorrow but the recovery will be a long process and a long road.
So, for the most kind hearted and giving people I know and am honored to call my in laws, I started this fund in hopes to help pay for some of the medical expenses and travel/gas funds for all these hospital visits which have been taking a toll on them. And if we were to exceed our goal, use some of the funding to make some much needed improvements to their home to help make their quality of life better and easier to live healthier. Such as replacing old carpeting with pergo flooring to elimiate dust to help Shelly breathe easier and lower the kitchen cabinets to a height that she could reach easily. I thank everyone in advance for all their love and prayers being sent to Shelly and George. It means the world to all of us, Georgie, Kevin and their 2 grandkids Gabe and Evie also. We would like to keep them healthy and around for a long time. <3
