Hi everyone,

It's Ruby and Jessica, Emily’s sisters, and we set up this GoFundMe account for anyone wishing to help support Emily, Daniel, and their boys, Atlas (5 yo) & Stark (15 mo).

Emily was involved in a severe car accident on January 14th. The accident occurred a few miles south of Glennallen. Emily was driving by herself and was the only one in her vehicle at the time. While we are incredibly grateful that she survived and all her injuries will heal with time, the road to recovery will be a long and difficult one.

There are still many unanswered questions at this point, but there are a few facts to share:

1. It is a miracle Emily is alive: She has suffered multiple bone fractures, but her injuries are all treatable and will heal with time. Her recovery will be arduous, Emily is determined to fight through and come out stronger on the other side!

2. Emily, Daniel, Atlas and Stark’s lives have been upended: Right now, it’s uncertain when they will return home to Gakona. For now, they will remain in the Eagle River/Chugiak area to ensure Emily receives the care she needs, and to provide the support and stability for Daniel and the boys.

3. The financial burden will be significant: Medical bills, childcare expenses, vehicle replacement, and all the other costs associated with suddenly being displaced with two young children.

It’s easy to see how loved the Hjortstorp family is! So many of you have reached out, asking how to support Emily and Daniel during this unexpected & challenging time. However, at this point there’s not much more that can be done aside from sending prayers, love, and support through this GoFundMe account.
