HITMAN (short film)

Introduction

Announcing HITMAN—a short narrative film that will be produced by young, Hawaii-based filmmakers.  Written and directed by high school student Devan Fujinaka and shot by high school student Alex Ching, this film will be submitted to festivals across the globe.  We are humbly asking for your support in funding this film, as donations of any size will help!

 
Story

Hitman will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii during the year 2045.  The story follows Jordan (30s), who illegally wipes human minds for money with his cousin Ricky (20s). After Ricky gets arrested in lieu of Jordan, Jordan is forced to make a difficult decision: whether or not to wipe a young boy’s memory in order to make the bail money to free his beloved cousin. This film explores the nature of human morality and conscience, as well as the ambiguity of what defines our humanity. 

Tone & Style

The film’s tone will be heavily geared towards the neo-noir style.  The stylistic use of shadows, light, and haze will be crucial to creating a furturistic, semi-dystopian world.  We will be shooting on digital in order to minimize budget, and we plan to enrich the colors in post production to achieve an authentic film aesthetic.


Director’s Statement

The line of humanity and morality has always been intriguing to me, but I have never explored the idea through my own visual storytelling. I thought this would be a great opportunity to do so, heading into my senior year of high school and coming closer to college, where personal values are often challenged.  The production of this short film will combine certain appropriate stylistic elements that I have picked up over the past years, in order to effectively tell this story and to further explore this philosophical concept of morality.

Production

Shooting will take place from July 15th-18th. We will shoot for 4 days and for 3 nights.

Devan is heading into his senior year at ‘Iolani High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has directed short films and has done various projects for companies and music videos since the 8th grade. In the 10th grade, he was a part of a team that had a film selected as a finalist the Daniel K. Inouye Film Festival.

Alex is a cinematographer and filmmaker originally from Honolulu, Hawaii.  In the 9th grade, he moved to Singapore and attended Singapore American School, where he gained experience shooting music videos and promotional projects.  His distinct style and passion to capture stories can be seen in his work. https://byalexching.github.io
