My goal is to raise $100 000. One dollar for every person living in the city of Moncton. Unfortunately I have a bad leg and cannot run across Canada, so I will be relying on the kindness of strangers to get me to the other side. I’m starting my journey by standing in the Atlantic Ocean in St. John’s Newfoundland, and I will be following Terry Fox’s route the best I can until I reach Thunder Bay. I won’t stop until I’m standing in the Pacific Ocean.

50% of all proceeds will go to the Terry fox Foundation. When you see first hand what these kids are dealing with when undergoing cancer treatment, you’ll understand why Terry Fox did what he did. The Terry fox foundation supports many of the top cancer researchers in Canada through the Terry Fox Research Institute, with one goal in mind. Find a cure, and finish it. The Terry Fox Research institute links 132 leading cancer care and research institutes, hospitals, and universities right across the country. Everyone knows his name, but not everyone knows the whole story. I recommended that everyone who reads this checks out the Terry Fox Foundations website, and learn his incredible story, despite what you might already know.

The other half of all proceeds will go to the IWK foundation to support the children and their families who are under the amazing care of the doctors who saved my life twice. All proceeds will be directed specifically to the Patient Family Support Trust Fund. This fund supports the needs of patients and families with expenses that arise as the result of a hematology/oncology diagnosis. It is used to support families for expenses related to an unplanned or emergency admissions, coverage for emergency expenses for families who are struggling due to hematology/oncology treatment plans, and travel for patients to hematology/oncology appointments for treatment. I’ve experienced first hand the financial strain rare treatment plans can put on a family despite our Canadian healthcare system. No family should have to carry a financial burden in the face of a child’s critical diagnoses. The IWK treats kids with critical illnesses all over Atlantic Canada.
