Hi everyone,
I’m writing this for my sister, who recently moved from Australia to Crete, Greece with her Labrador Lyla — her family, her home, and truly her soulmate.
A few days ago, their lives changed in an instant. While crossing the road, my sister and Lyla were hit by a reckless, speeding motocross bike. The rider had no lights, no number plate, and was reportedly speeding — and then fled the scene. It was a hit-and-run, and the driver has still not been found.
Lyla was killed by the impact. My sister survived, but she has suffered a devastating injury: her wrist is broken in three places. She may require surgery and will find out in the coming week.
What makes this even harder to put into words is that Lyla saved my sister’s life. In that moment, Lyla took the full impact — and we truly believe that without her, my sister may not have survived. Lyla gave her life protecting the person she loved most.
On top of the unimaginable grief of losing Lyla, my sister is now facing a sudden financial crisis. She teaches Yoga and Pilates both online and in person, and her injury means she can’t work for an unknown amount of time since recovery will take months. It’s uncertain whether she’ll be able to teach again at the same level at this point. For the meantime she is facing another move and trying to find herself since she cannot live on her own without help to overcome daily challenges.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a real difference. If you can’t donate, sharing this page helps more than you know.
Thank you for supporting my sister during the most heartbreaking time of her life. ❤️
love,
Katharina
