Hit by Semi-Truck while Helping Distressed Dog
Donation protected
A college kid, Thomas, was only trying to do the right thing. He found a dog, Lainey, while trying to have a nice lake day at the end of the semester. Since he is a resident of the city of Oxford, he planned to take her to Oxford's Animal Shelter so that she could get the help & care that she obviously needed. They turned him away but told him Second Chance Animal Alliance in Water Valley would take her. So he drove the almost 30 minutes there to be told no (understandably - they are always full & severely underfunded but do incredible work despite all odds), again. When leaving, Thomas & Lainey were hit by an 18-wheeler!
Thankfully, they both are ok. Even after all of that, still no one would take the dog so 9 Lives Cat Rescue stepped in. The rescue community in Oxford failed both he & Lainey that day. Now Thomas has medical bills & a totaled vehicle, all on top of finals week.
Thomas was trying to do the right thing. I can’t imagine knowing that you raised a good human, who would go out of their way to help a soul in need only to get that phone call. Now, he is burdened with something as severe & traumatic as this - all for doing a good deed. When 9 Lives picked up the dog Thomas said to us "I just couldn't leave her there. I don't know how I'd live with myself." The world needs more people like Thomas. 9 Lives wants Thomas & others to keep on trying to make the world a better place, one action at a time. We want to help lighten his load by giving him whatever donations we can get but we need your help!
Join the good fight. This is just the beginning for both Thomas & Lainey. All of the initial & residual medical bills that come with a major accident like this. The arduous process of dealing with insurance & securing a new vehicle. Not to mention, Lainey is on the hunt for her forever home. At only 2 years old, she has had a hard life as a breed dog. She was covered head to toe in ticks. Her teeth are damaged, probably from trying to eat whatever she could find (bottles, cans, etc.). She has several scars & abscesses & broken nails. However, all of that doesn’t stop her from being so incredibly sweet & calm. She wants everyone who walks past her to pet her, clearly craving the love & affection she seemingly never got. There is no doubt, Thomas was her guardian angel. Now it’s time for us to do the same for him.
Please give what you can, every little bit helps!
