Hit by DUI Driver
On September 6th myself and others were on a motorcycle ride in Cecil County, MD. As we approached a service station, a minivan turned into oncoming traffic causing my friend and his better half to crash. After causing the crash involving my friend, the woman fled the scene. While fleeing the scene the woman struck a vehicle which caused her car to become immobile. Fellow riders who happened to witness the crashes thankfully chased down the woman and pulled her out of the car. Once the woman was out of the car, the riders held her there until Maryland troopers arrived on scene. In the woman’s vehicle empty beer cans and a case of beer were found in the car with her. After the police arrived and gathered information, we were told that the driver stated that “I hit them because they were in my way”. The troopers who were on scene also relayed that this incident would be the driver’s 5th DUI and she had an active warrant as well. In addition, the driver provided a fake insurance card which causes this situation to be even worse for the victims involved.
As a result of the crash, my friend and his better half were transported to the hospital. One by ambulance and one by helicopter. Undoubtedly, they will have outstanding medical bills and will continue to accumulate bills as treatment will be ongoing. Due to the driver not having valid insurance, being compensated for their bills will likely not be an option. This crash makes my blood boil as this woman should not have been on the road having been convicted of multiple DUIs; and her behavior at the scene displayed her clear disregard for human life.
If you can find it in your heart to help a fellow rider It would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Dan
