Practitioners of Samvara Take Note ! ! !
My next translation project will be called: The Bliss Wheel: The History and Practice of Chakrasamvara in Luhipa’s Transmission.
Luhipa’s transmission of Chakrasamvara begins with Vajrapani, who taught Saraha the Elder. Saraha taught Nagarjuna. Nagarjuna taught Saraha the Younger. Saraha the Younger taught Luhipa, who taught Dombi Heruka and Dharikapa, who taught Vajra Ghantipa. His student was Krishnacarya. His student was Guhyapa. His student was Antaravijaya. His student was Tilopa, who taught Naropa, who taught Sri Pham-thing-ba, who taught Mal Lotsawa, who taught Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, and so the transmission came to Tibet. This transmission has been passed down in Tibet from that time. I personally received this transmission from my teachers Dezhung Rinpoche, who gave me the Lung Transmissions, and Ngawang Kunga Trinley Sakya Rinpoche, who gave me personal instruction over many years. The early founders of the Sakya tradition were deeply connected to Chakrasamvara, and there survive eight important works devoted to the history and practice of Chakrasamvara among the writings in the Hundred Thousand Pronouncements of the Sakyas, the Sakya Kabum.
The Chakrasamvara Tantra itself has been translated into English more than once now, but the majestic and living tradition of this practice as it was first described by the Tibetan Masters of Old is something that we seriously need to have translated. It is for this purpose that I have made my current project to be a translation of all eight texts written by the Sakya Founders regarding the history and practice of Chakrasamvara.
First will be An Historical Account of the Lineage of the Gurus of Luhipa’s Chakrasamvara Tradition by Jetsun Dragpa Gyaltsan. Here we get detailed stories about the transmission of this teaching from its origins to the present, with detailed stories of the teachers and their students.
Second will be Stages in the Meditation toward a Genuine Understanding of Supreme Bliss in Luhipa’s Tradition by Jetsun Dragpa Gyaltsan. This is a detailed explanation of the actual practice.
Third will be The Hundred Thousand Grains in Luhipa’s Supreme Bliss by Sakya Pandita. This is a detailed discussion of difficult points in the practice.
Fourth will be The Clear Stages in the Sadhana for Luhipa’s Supreme Bliss by Chogyal Phagpa. This is an account meant for our actual practice.
Fifth will be The Brief Sadhana by Chogyal Phagpa.
Sixth will be The River of Confessions for Supreme Bliss by Chogyal Phagpa
Seventh will be the Glorification of the Praises of Our Mandala by Chogyal Phagpa
Eighth will be the Invocation and Praise of the Eight Women at the Borders of the Doors
by Chogyal Phagpa
The volume will provide a complete view of the history and practice tradition of Luhipa’s Samvara cycle. I estimate it will be about four hundred fifty pages in the English.
My target for this fundraiser is $7,500. This money will sustain me during the time I immerse myself into this project. The volume that results will be a resource for both scholars and practitioners for a long time. Those of you who are practitioners of Chakrasamvara or who have received empowerments into any of the cycles of Chakrasamvara will be especially happy to have this material available in English. Please help me to make this happen!
I am offering gifts to those who contribute: Those who send $108 will receive a copy of the finished book. Those who contribute $500 will receive a signed copy of the book and be mentioned in the Acknowledgements. Those who contribute $1008 will receive three signed copies of the book and will be mentioned in the Acknowledgements. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help to sustain me while I bring this book out. I deeply appreciate the support I have received for my translations over the years, and I do everything in my power to bring you a reliable and meaningful translation. Your support is the essential ingredient to making this project workable.
