Stone Temple Church Covid-19 Relief Fund
Tax deductible
Even with the new stimulus bill, the amount of funds scheduled for disbursement will be insufficient to provide relief to families in North Lawndale, especially with the national moratorium on eviction slated to end January 21, 2021.
The Historic Stone Temple Church is not waiting for the government stimulus checks to help low income families in North Lawndale. Instead, we are asking for your help to raise $200,000 by January 31, 2021 so that we can grant 200 families up to $1,000.00 each. We are instituting the Acts 4:35 approach to meet the needs of 200 families in North Lawndale.
"And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among . For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need." ~Acts 4:33-35

Our inspiration
During these times of uncertainty and crisis, people all over the globe have come together to support one another. COVID-19 is a test of our collective strength. As millions of people are suffering in isolation, businesses are closing, unemployment is spiking, it is increasingly difficult for families to feed children, pay rent and utilities. This effect is compounded by historic injustices in Black and Brown communities.
Our COVID-19 Response
From April 2020 through November 2020, The Historic Stone Temple Church and North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council (NLCCC) distributed more than 9,600 boxes of fresh produce from Urban Growers Collective and Gourmet Gorilla to families in North Lawndale, one of the most impoverished communities in Chicago.
In June and July 2020, Stone Temple partnered with the Fire House Community Arts Center to deliver cooked meals and grocery items to individuals recovering from COVID-19 who were confined at home and seniors with limited mobility.
On September 1, 2020 Stone Temple was granted $3,000 to purchase protein for North Lawndale residents, which we leveraged to obtain 1,000 pounds of ground beef and poultry.
On October 2, 2020 Stone Temple was granted $4,000 from the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago's Children and their partners (including Kohl’s Cares Foundation and Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago) to provide 200 Healthy Stay at Home kits to families in North Lawndale. The healthy Stay at Home kits included a healthy cookbook, PPE, a physical activity and healthy eating guide, COVID-19 information, household disinfectant, and a toy or game to keep the family active.
Since November 16, 2020 The Historic Stone Temple Church partnered with NLCCC to provide 200 hot bowls of soup to members of the North Lawndale Community as a part of our COVID-19 Relief Plan. Our “Soup for the Soul” program will end on March 31, 2021.
Our Community Need
The North Lawndale community in Chicago has been hit by more than just COVID-19. North Lawndale is suffering from trauma and poverty resulting from systemic racism, social injustice, food and health insecurities, disenfranchisement, redlining, unemployment and under employment, all of which lead to hopelessness and creates conditions for violence.
I AM ABLE, UCAN, and other organizations in North Lawndale provide mental health services for those who are experiencing trauma. More services are needed to address the scale of need.
While there are a few governmental programs available to provide financial and rental assistance to individuals in Black and brown communities, application processes are sometimes challenging and can be viewed as another form of systemic racism.
To Receive Support
If you or someone you know are in need of any of COVID-19 Relief Funds, please stop by Stone Temple at 3622 W Douglas Blvd on Monday, February 1 and 8, 2021 between 2-4pm to complete a community-friendly application.
