Stair Family History from Sept. 26, 1737 sailing into Philadelphia, then to Botetourt County, VA , then to Scott County, VA and beyond.
Johannes Stoehr and Anna Margaretha Dock brought their family into Philadelphia in 1737, on the St. Andrew Galley. The ships log can be viewed in numerous places on the internet.
Philipp Stoehr (also written Stehr), the son of Johannes Stoehr and Anna Margaretha Dock, was born on 18 February 1716 at Langensoultzbach in the Province of Bas-Rhin, France. He was subsequently christened in the Evangelisch Lutheran Church at Langensoultzbach on 20 February 1716. As a young man, Philipp emigrated with his parents to America, eventually settling in that portion of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania that is now part of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.
On 27 April 1742, Philipp married at Warwick in Lancaster County to a woman named Anna Maria Holler, the daughter of Johann Nicolaus Holler (also written Huller) and his wife, Anna Maria. Anna, who was born on 17 March 1724/25, probably at Ungstein in the State of Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany, emigrated to the New World with her family when only 12 years of age. Ironically, both Philipp and Anna came on the ship "St. Andrew Galley," which arrived at Philadelphia on 26 September 1737.
Philipp, who was a wagon maker by trade, died on 22 August 1781 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. His will, which was written on 23 July 1781, was admitted for probate before the Lancaster County Court on 27 September 1781. Anna, on the other hand, died in Lancaster County on 28 August 1804. She was subsequently buried in the Moravian Cemetery at Hebron in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (now part of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania). Philipp and Anna were married for 39 years and had 13 children.
