Twelve years ago, my dream of sailing the world was shattered in Kent.
I had spent three years restoring a sailboat to sail to New Zealand. But life had other plans. Mental health struggles, depression, and a broken relationship meant the boat never left the UK. I walked away from the sea.
But in the ashes of that broken dream, I found Haku.
Haku is my 12-year-old rescue dog. Through the darkest chapters of my life, the collapse of my marriage, and my own battle with depression, Haku has been my constant anchor. He never left my side. He helped me navigate the storms I couldn't face alone.
Now, his legs are failing him. And it is my turn to carry him.
At 12, Haku is in his twilight years. Because of age-related mobility issues, he can no longer join me on hikes. Realizing our time together is precious and running short, I made a radical decision: we are going to finish the adventure we started twelve years ago.
At the end of July, early August, we are setting off from Kent on a custom motorbike and sidecar. Our destination? We are aiming to get as far east as we can in thirty days - our final destination, I can only dream of is Nepal.
Over 10,000 miles of changing terrain, unpredictable borders, and open roads, I want to show my best friend the world—at his pace, in his very own customised sidecar—before it’s too late.
I will be riding an Urban 525 which has been donated to me and Haku kindly for the journey by SWM Itay.
As a professional photographer, I will be documenting every mile of our journey, capturing the profound bond between humans, animals, and the healing power of the open road.
Why We Need Your Help
Overland travel with an elderly dog is beautiful, but it requires a serious safety net. With our departure just three weeks away, we are raising funds to secure;
Haku’s Health & Comfort: Veterinary care, specialized travel insurance, and senior dog mobility support along the route.
Border & Custom Clearances: Border documents (Carnet de Passages) to ensure the sidecar can legally cross from Europe into Asia.
The Documentary Dispatch: Keeping our satellite connection alive so we can share daily photo-stories, video updates, and road dispatches directly with you.
Haku has always been there for me when times were tough, so the least I can do is give him the adventure of a lifetime.
Thank you for helping me carry him!
