Hire an attorney, justice for Jordyn

Hi, my name is Jody, almost 4 months ago my daughter was found deceased in a vehicle near Glenwood Alberta. Her death was suspicious, and while we are awaiting autopsy results and other things, there is some other issues that need to be resolved, that require an attorney.

We are a fairly private family, but many of my closest people knew of our struggles.

My daughter was getting help for her mental health and disabilitiess and ome behaviour issues through children's services. Now while I can't get into the details, she was neither getting worse or better.

However, I would like to bring to light the systemic failures that our children are facing if they are involved with many of our government funded youth programs and systems, or lack there of.

Many of the programs are not available to our youth unless they are involved in children's services, and if they need longer care, you are then in the position of having to give up custody of your child, or have them take them. There are very few programs that can be accessed by parents alone.

We need answers for what went wrong, why the police didn't put out a missing persons photo, why her missing persons file was closed without her being found, even though their procedure states they need to make physical contact.

Was it because she is indigenous? Because she had run away before? Was it because she was involved with children's services?

Access to medical care is a basic human right, including mental health, so why are these very needed programs only accessable if you are involved with children's services?

Why are parents having to give up or having their guardianship taken so that youth can continue to access them? When a judge looks you in the face and tells you , you have done everything you can, she just needs more. I believed them, I trusted them, but she didn't get anything more than when she was in my care. And then she was gone.

I know I'm not alone, I've talked to countless other parents who are dealing with the same issues, struggling to get the support for their kids.

My daughter lost her life, I do not want any other child to slip through the cracks in the very system that is suppose to be there to help and protect them.

She deserved more, and so do the hundreds of other kids and parents seeking support and help.

So we are hiring an Attorney, someone to help get the answers and the change that so desperately needs to happen.

according to Alberta's ministry of children's services, 89% of children who die while receiving intervention services are indigenous.

And this is only the tip of it. as things start to come to light, I will share more statistics, and how our children and families are being failed by the system.
