HIPPO NEEDS HELP TO BREATHE PROPERLY
Hippo, a sweet Pocket Bully currently in our care at Animals in Distress, is struggling every day with something most dogs never even have to think about — breathing.
Hippo came to us as a stray after being found abandoned, and it was obvious straight away how much he was struggling. Even getting excited to see his favourite humans leaves him breathless and distressed as he fights to get enough air. In this warm weather, he cannot safely go out for walks at all because the strain on his breathing could cause him to collapse.
Hippo suffers from BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome), a condition sadly common in flat-faced breeds. He urgently needs surgery on the soft palate in his throat to help open his airway and allow him to breathe more normally.
At the moment, everyday things that dogs should enjoy — walks, playtime, excitement and exploring — are difficult for Hippo because he has to work so hard just to breathe. Despite everything, he is such a lovely, affectionate boy who deserves the chance to feel comfortable and enjoy life properly.
Hippo will have the surgery he needs no matter what, but we would be so grateful for any support towards the cost of his operation and aftercare.
We are hoping to raise £2,000 towards Hippo’s treatment, and every donation, no matter how small, will make a genuine difference.
Thank you so much for your amazing support, and for caring about dogs like Hippo ❤️
