Zuki dislocated her hip last Friday, July 18, and has to have surgery.

We adopted Zuki from the shelter in Knoxville, TN, when I was in high school. She was about nine months old then. She's almost 15 years old now. We've been together through so much, and she's gone from being my silly rescued puppy to my sweet little old lady.

On Friday morning, she was outside with my mom and her dog when she suddenly screamed and then couldn't use her back left leg. We took her to urgent care later that day, and the x-rays showed that she'd dislocated her hip. The next day, they put her under anesthesia and tried to pop it back in, but that didn't work.

At that point, I'd already spent $3,449, but with no fix, and she was still in pain.

She's a tough little girl and has been trying to do all her normal things, even though she's in pain. I got her a harness so I can help her get around until she has the surgery.

On Thursday, July 24, we took her to see a veterinary surgeon. He evaluated her and is going to do surgery next Tuesday. We don't know for sure which surgery he will do until he actually starts and can get a look at her bones. Hopefully, he'll decide to do the reconstruction with a tightrope, which will put the hip back the way it was with a little anchor to hold it in place. That surgery is more expensive, but it will be the best recovery and result for her. If he doesn't think her bones can handle the tightrope, then he'll do an FHO, which means removing the head of the leg bone and letting it "float." It isn't as natural, but it will eliminate the pain she is in now, and with physical therapy, she should recover fine.

The surgery may cost as much as $10,308, and then she'll need physical therapy after that as well.

I've donated to help other people in similar situations over the years. I'm hoping what goes around comes around, and my friends and community can help me cover these crazy costs, so I can take care of my girlie the way she deserves.
