Help Claritha Walk Again
Claritha Nichols retired from IRS after working in Baltimore, National Office, South Carolina, Fort
Lauderdale and Atlanta.
In March 2021 Claritha fell backwards off a step onto the brick patio breaking 2 bones in the pelvis, 2
bones in the femur and broke her hip.
Emergency surgery repaired/replaced the hip and hardware. She experienced complications and after 4
surgeries everything was removed from the hip area leaving Claritha bedridden and unable to stand or
walk. A 5th surgery is scheduled to replace the hip and associated hardware.
Claritha has been in rehab or hospital since March and has used up all Medicare and Blue Cross/Blue
Shield benefits. She has also used up all rehab hours for rest of year which means she must pay for any
physical therapy .
She needs help with mounting medical expenses. Currently her copay for rehab is $186. Daily. She can
only return to rehab after her 5th surgery until all outstanding bills are paid, estimated to be $13,000. It is
anticipated that her total medical for the 5 plus months of hospitalization and rehab will be between
$100,000 and $200,000. Future rehab expenses are expected to be $30,000. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
