Five years ago my grandson, John, was a gifted athlete on his school’s freshman lacrosse and ice hockey teams. He was also a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo. That spring, he sustained a sports injury that left him disabled. He has been in constant pain and some days cannot get out of bed. He has had to come to grips with losing his physical comfort, mobility, strength, and dreams / goals for his high school years and his future.
After years of being misdiagnosed by multiple doctors, John recently received a proper diagnosis. His injury stems from a birth defect and needs surgery to get him out of pain. The recovery time is 6-9 months, with extensive Physical Therapy during that time.
John’s surgery is scheduled December 21, 2020 – 4 days before Christmas.
The family lost their business due to Covid-19; it didn't receive a penny from the stimulus bill. Their insurance is not accepted by many doctors and has denied some of the required pre-surgery procedures. By God’s grace, John's new, excellent orthopedist does accept their insurance. He specializes in this type of surgery with a 95-98% success rate.
Your donations go to John's mother who will manage the bills not covered by the insurance. Expenses will include all or a percentage of:
***Insurance deductible (several layers)
***Pre-surgery office visits, MRIs, X-rays, blood work, etc.
***Surgery, anesthesiologist, operating room / hospital charges
***Medications / crutches / ancillary items prescribed post-op
***Follow-up PT and other recommended therapies for 6 – 9 months
***Evaluation / treatment of the secondary issue related to the primary hip impingement diagnosis
***Various therapies for nonpathological results of the injury
***Potential need for housing near the doctor and PT offices for 1 – 2 months during post-surgery recovery.
The surgery can happen if we receive enough funds. Please check your heart and do only what it says for you to do. We honor you and your choices.
