Hip hip hooray Miley gets a fancy new hip

Miley came into our lives as a foster dog about a year and a half ago, we had her for about two weeks and could not imagine giving her up- she was already at her forever home.

She came from a pretty terrible situation, a cry for help by a local animal activist who rescued her along with 32 other Kelpies kept in small quarters and we don't know what kind of trauma she endured as a young dog.

She has tried desperately to keep up to her younger sister Koda all this time and always wanting to come along as we stay active.  After some pain and a few episodes with the need for anti-inflammatory meds and several x-rays the vet found arthritis in her front wrists.  Another scary painful situation brought her back for other x-rays and the vet found her right femur has grown to try and fit into her hip socket(they think as a young dog or after a trauma) also known as hip dysplasia.  I added the latest x-rays for the comparison of her painful situation.

You would never know she has had her bones rubbing together this whole time we've had her and we can only imagine for most of her life.  She has put on the bravest face and wanting to be a part of all our adventures and activities.

We thought we would put together a space where people that felt they wanted to help out in this situation could do so.  We know this is a massive expense and invasive surgery for our Miley girl.  We want to give her the best life possible now she is out of the worst situation and she is still so young (around 5) we think it is the best option for another 10 years(we hope) of life left.

For family and friends that know us we didn't take this situation lightly and know we are making the right choice to give her a full life without pain and best chance at full mobility when she is recovered.

Since we live in Tasmania we need to transport Miley to Victoria(we will fly her) to get the surgery by a specialist there.  The surgery has her in the hospital for two nights and two follow up visits before we fly back to Tasmania.  The recovery time can vary but we will have 8-12 weeks of very limited mobility and slow physio recovery.

The total cost of this surgery is around 11000 with flights, surgery, new hip implant, pain medications and post op vet visits/x-rays.

We will get her the surgery she needs and care for her for many years ahead to live a happy and healthy life.

If you can spare any funds to contribute to this significant investment we are about to undertake we would be so appreciative.
