Carrie Maki. To know her is to LOVE her! She is genuinely one of the most positive, loving, funny and selfless people you’ll ever meet. While Carrie is one of the first to step up and help anyone in need, this time, Carrie needs our help to cover expenses related to an upcoming total hip arthroplasty (hip replacement surgery).

Carrie has needed a new hip for the past 5 years but has continued to delay medical care due to the high out of pocket deductible required by her insurance to have the surgery. Unfortunately, in addition to her preexisting hip issues, she now has a bone spur which has added to her pain and significantly limited her mobility further making the need for surgery much more urgent.

Carrie works as a Mental Health Practitioner with some of the most vulnerable people in Duluth. Even when she’s not working she can be found stopping to help anyone she sees, delivering food and basic supplies to those in need and providing resources to many who can benefit from information and a little kindness. In addition to working full time, Carrie also provides care to her mother who will also be having back surgery next month. Carrie is a mother to a senior and is eager to get healthy so she can be able to continue to be his biggest fan in the stands this year!

Carrie finds incredible joy in caring for others but now she needs our help! She was very reluctant to reach out to others for help, but given her increasing pain and the inability to live the life she deserves, she finally agreed to let us help.

Our fundraising goal of $12,000 is to cover the $9,000 out of pocket deductible for surgery and $3,000 in lost wages as Carrie’s employer does not provide adequate PTO or short term disability benefits (she will need to be off of work for 4-6 weeks).

The benefit of having this surgery early in 2022 will also afford Carrie the ability to have her other hip replaced towards the end of the year without additional out of pocket medical expenses. Unfortunately, she does need both hips replaced.

Please help support Carrie so we can get her back on her feet and feeling good again! All donations will go directly to Carrie’s medical expenses and covering any lost wages.
