HINDSIGHT - A Short Film About Friendship, and Loneliness

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re now fundraising for our new short film, Hindsight!—a heartfelt coming-of-age short film that explores friendship, family, and the quiet loneliness that creeps in as we grow up.

At its core, Hindsight is about four young friends experiencing the thrill of having a car for the first time. Remember those late-night drives, car karaoke sessions, and the freedom of the open road? The film captures all of that joy and nostalgia—but it also asks, what happens when life moves on and those shared moments become memories? As friendships drift apart, the once-lively car begins to feel empty.

We’re thrilled and grateful that Hindsight has already secured 65% of its budget, but we still need your support to help us raise that final 35% and bring this story to life.

Synopsis:

When Jamal buys his first car, it’s a gateway to endless adventures and unforgettable moments with his closest friends. But as time passes and life takes them in different directions, their bond starts to fade. What once felt like freedom now feels like isolation, and Jamal is left grappling with the loneliness of growing apart.

Director’s Statement:

When Ben first pitched Hindsight to me, he described it as “a film about Black boys just doing nothing.” In his description of the story he said;

“I want to show the experiences I had driving around with the mandem.”

This became the anchor for me because, too often, we see Black stories dominated by trauma. Instead, this film is about joy, connection, and the everyday moments that shape us.

Beyond the nostalgia, Hindsight also explores the quiet heartbreak of friendships fading over time. It’s something we all experience but rarely see reflected on screen. Loneliness is a growing issue, particularly amongst young men, and this film subtly addresses it with warmth, humour, and honesty. I think this topic and exploration of vulnerability in black men is particularly timely, with de-stigmatisation surrounding emotional availability being discussed openly.

We want to create a film that makes you laugh, makes you think, and maybe even makes you reach out to an old friend.
