Esperanza Hilts, affectionally known as Espie to family and friends, is a passionate instructional specialist for Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD and long time educator. Anyone who knows Espie is quick to note her warmth and deep passion for children. She is adored by her family, colleagues, friends, and church family. As former loving foster parents, she and her husband, Henry, were thrilled to become pregnant this year with a baby boy after years of struggling with infertility and previous losses.
In December, at 28 weeks pregnant, Espie contacted a serious case of COVID-19 and was quickly hospitalized in intensive care. She recently had a tracheotomy and is hooked up to an ECMO machine, which performs the functions of her heart and lungs. Our current prayer is for her to become fully aware after being weaned off medical sedition just today.
Due to distress, Esperanza had an emergency C-section, giving birth to Dominic at 3 pounds, 13 ounces. Dominic is being cared for in the NICU and is breathing on his own! We are praying for him to eat on his own and gain some weight so he can come home soon!
With COVID restrictions, Henry is not allowed to enter Esperanza’s hospital room. Henry is holding true to his faith and prays as he waits for news on his little family. We are celebrating every victory in faith!
Espie and Dom will be hospitalized many more weeks, followed by a long recovery with multiple medications and rehab for Espie. Medical bills have mounted quickly with an immediate request by the hospital for a $10,000 down payment. This amount will be just a small portion of the medical costs. We will also run into renewed deductibles as we move into a new calendar year.
As we continue to cover this family in prayer, if you have the means to help this precious family, your tangible financial gift would be invaluable. With all the people who know and love Espie, even small gifts will multiply and help ease the burden on the family who needs to focus on healing and loving on their new lil one. We will continue to update this site as we have news. Wishing you each healthy, Happy New Year!
