Small Family in Need of Help for Husband's Cancer
Donation protected
Hello,
We are the Lumpkin's. I am Hillrod and I have a beautiful wife Desiree' and our biggest blessing, Kaiya, who just turned two, As you can see in the picture, the fun doesn't stop with her! We are a close knit family with not a lot of family support nearby, but a great set of friends and loved ones here in the Twin Cities Area.
I would like to fundraise for my entire family- myself, Desiree (more affectionately known as Dez) and Kaiya.
When Christmas season came in 2020, we treated it just like most- planning with the excitement of visiting family and making good for our daughter. But as December began, I began feeling really fatigued- I mean REALLY fatigued. I, probably like most others, became my own doctor and chalked it up to just working too hard during the year and being "stressed out". But the fatigue never left, and neither did the fevers, which I were getting more frequently. I still decided that it was just stress.
Finally for Christmas week, it was time for us to leave to see my family in Detroit when I realized my abilities to conduct simple activities around the house were becoming more difficult. Dez drove me to the hospital the day after Christmas, and I got the news that changed my life forever.
Acute myeloid leukemia. This disease is a type of cancer that attacks the blood and bone marrow. I couldn't believe it. I worked out frequently and led a very active lifestyle with no prior health issues. My blood (hemoglobin level) had been reduced to 3.9, a deadly rate which caused me to need multiple emergency blood transfusions. After this process, it was time to begin the recovery process, mainly which includes a bone marrow transplant.
We were devastated. Our whole lives changed in an instant. But while we grappled with this new reality we were also determined. Determined to not only trust in God, but to also trust in my body's strength. It was because of our faith that I has been moved to the Mayo clinic that specializes in bone marrow transplants and rehabilitation.
Currently, I await the opportunity to begin my bone marrow transplant, as complications need to be cleared. The journey is far from done, and the mantra we continue to hold onto is "One Day At a Time". Each day brings new progress towards my full recovery.
I try my best everyday to be a loving husband and the best father to my daughter. I loves being active in my community, hosting friends at home, reading the Bible, being a great listener and most importantly spreading the light.
How the funds will be used: $11,000 will cover medical bills, $6,000 will be used for a home caretaker that will be needed for 3 months post-transplant, $1,500 for transportation to and from Mayo (1.5 hr drive), as as well as resources for me and my family. We covet your prayers, your well wishes, good thoughts and positive energy; we appreciate all your generous donations, and we thank each one of you for helping to continue my journey to renewal.
