Have you ever come home to a messy house with so much on your plate that you could barely get the dishes done? Now, picture the moment that life finally slowed down enough that you were able to catch up. That moment when you looked around and things were finally done, when you could sit down on your sofa without thinking of an overwhelming and ever-increasing task list. Did you sigh in relief? Now imagine that moment never comes. This is where our dear friend Wendi Hiller has found herself.
Several years ago, tragedy struck the Hiller family when Matthew, Wendi Hiller, and two of their children were involved in a head-on collision that took Matthew’s life and severely injured their 10 year old daughter. This accident served as a catalyst for many changes in the Hiller family. In addition to the trauma of losing a parent and experiencing a serious accident, the Hiller family home had to be sold due to financial constraints. While Wendi was thrust into the deep end of learning to single parent their 14 children, she also had to move and adjust to a home half the size.
Wendi and Matthew always had a heart for children, so as the family began to heal, Wendi began to open their home to foster children again. In the last 5 years, 29 children and two separate women in need have found shelter for a season in the Hiller home.
When the quarantine/shelter-in-place order in 2020 necessitated that parents keep their children home, Single mother Wendi began to homeschool all 12 of her school-age children while also caring for an infant and 2 toddlers in the home. In 2021 Wendi contracted COVID and was unable to recover for over 9 months. As you can imagine, things began to pile up. Due to the back up, their established organization systems no longer were working. As if the last several years haven’t held enough hardship, in the past several months several of Wendi’s children have been diagnosed with some hereditary medical problems. The extra appointments have further impacted the ability for Wendi to get things caught up.
A friend recommended a professional organizer to Wendi, and she has given a bid and a complete plan for a home reset. She is willing to take on what would normally be a 6 week project in 3 days and for a discount! (you can peek at the project bid at this link here ) The organizer is available in December, so our goal is to raise $9,000 as quickly as possible in order to give the Hiller Family the hard reset they and their home so desperately need.
Recall that moment of relief you pictured earlier. This is where we come in! That deep sigh of relief and rest is what we want to give Wendi as she and her family enter into the holiday season and the new year. As her friends, family, neighbors, and community, we want to come together to lift this burden so she can better focus on the individual needs of the children in her care.
Would you consider partnering with us as we work to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the Hiller Family? If you have the ability to contribute, even the smallest amount would greatly help this family. The impact of a gift like this, and your continued prayer, will help propel the family to a better future.
The specific goals for the project are as follows and all funds will be used to complete the work and beautify the home.
GOALS:
Finished space is beautiful and functional.
Every item has a home that is clear, logical, and accessible so that kids can responsibly help maintain it. No piles!
Employ systems of organization that are sustainable and manageable long term.
Home becomes a restored place of peace rather than chaos, and Wendi is able to comfortably receive help with upkeep as well as host others as needed/desired.
Family morning & evening routines established that are clear, manageable, and reasonable.
“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
James 1:27
