Dear Crestonians, Parents and Guardians,
Over forty years ago this school was founded on a beautiful natural woodland near Penhalonga.
Along with many leaders of schools around the world, and as the new Principal, it is my aim to
maintain a sustainable, environmentally aware campus for our pupils to learn and thrive within.
I have great pleasure in supporting the solar project that was created and planned last year and it
is my intent on seeing this through to its completion as our first major project of 2025. By
transitioning to solar power, we aim to ensure a reliable and cost-effective energy source for our
schools.
Current Energy Consumption and Costs
Currently, our school relies on a combination of hydroelectric power (HEP), diesel, and gas. This
costs us approximately US$125,000.00 annually. This expenditure is substantial and is subject to
fluctuations in fuel prices and availability. It has a big impact on our operational stability.
Solar Power Installation
The proposed solar power installation, capable of producing 210 kW, comes at a one-time cost
of approximately US$200 000.00. We will be working with OneStop Solar (Pvt) Ltd. Solar power
will provide energy to the Prep school, the College, Laverock and Farmcrest.
While the initial investment is significant, the long-term benefits far outweigh the costs. Our
calculations show that we will recoup our investment in around eighteen months. We aim to feed
back into the main grid to support the National Electricity supply for our community. Over a 25-
year lifespan of the solar panels, the school stands to save well over US$2.5million considering
there will be less costs for fuel and for the maintenance of our generators.

no fuel costs, making it inexpensive in the long run. Contributing to our National Grid will have
numerous benefits.
3. Environmental Impact: Solar energy is clean and renewable, significantly reducing our carbon
footprint and promoting environmental stewardship.
4. Educational Value: Implementing solar power serves as a practical educational tool, teaching
students about renewable energy and sustainability.
