Hilfe für Extrawurst Buenos Aires

Liebe Freunde und Unterstützer von Extrawurst,

Vor acht Jahren haben wir unser Projekt „Deutsche Bratwurst in Buenos Aires“ gestartet, welches sich sehr gut entwickelte. Wir wollten eine moderne, deutsche Küche anbieten, ganz im Gegensatz zu den eingesessenen „deutschen“ Restaurants, welche eigentlich nur noch auf dem Papier etwas mit der deutschen Küche zu tun hatten. Das Projekt entwickelte sich trotz der permanenten Argentinienkrise sehr gut. Vor 5 Jahren konnten wir die Extrawurst im Stadtteil Constitución eröffnen. Außerdem wurden wir oft von deutschen Institutionen wie der Deutschen oder der Österreichischen Botschaft sowie der Auslandshandelskammer oder des Goethe-Instituts gebucht. Vor knapp drei Jahren wagten wir den Schritt ins Microcentro (so heißt der historische Kern von Buenos Aires). Wir eröffneten mit der Gastschänke ein größeres und traditionelleres, deutsches Wirtshaus. Bis März letzten Jahres waren wir sehr guter Dinge, dass sich unsere Arbeit langfristig bezahlt macht.

Nach gut einem Jahr weltweiter Pandemie, mehrerer Monate komplett ohne Arbeit und danach Monate mit geringen Umsätzen, haben wir uns Mitte Februar dazu entschlossen, unser Stammlokal, die Extrawurst, in der Straße Solis 1697 aufzugeben, bzw. zu schließen. Viele unserer Mitbewerber haben dies schon viel früher getan, aber wir wollten versuchen solange wie möglich beide Restaurants und damit auch die verbundenen Arbeitsplätze zu halten. Der Grund warum wir letztendlich den Schritt gegangen sind ist, dass wir nur noch Schulden anhäufen, wenn wir beide Restaurants geöffnet haben. Wir müssen dringend Kosten einsparen, um wenigstens eines der beiden retten zu können. Die Entscheidung ist uns nicht leicht gefallen, da unser zweites Restaurant momentan auch nicht in der idealen Zone liegt. Die Extrawurst Gastschänke befindet sich im Touristischen Teil sowie im Geschäftszentrum von Buenos Aires und es hat leider weder Touristen noch gibt es volle Büros. Der Großteil der Firmen – wahrscheinlich wie in Deutschland – arbeitet vom Homeoffice aus und der Tourismus ist gleich null. Die Leute gehen in diesen Tagen verstärkt in ihren Wohnvierteln weg, was für uns katastrophal ist. Wir haben uns dennoch für das zweite Restaurant entschieden, da es größer ist und sobald sich die Lage verbessert, es uns eine bessere Ausgangsposition verschafft.

Im vergangenen Jahr haben wir versucht so viele Mitarbeiter wie möglich zu halten und allen Arbeit anzubieten, obwohl das wirtschaftlich sehr problematisch war. Daher haben wir uns sehr stark verschuldet. Mit der Schließung der Extrawurst in der Straße Solis, erhoffen wir uns eine starke Senkung der Fixkosten. Zwei unserer Mitarbeiter haben gekündigt und zwei Mitarbeitern mussten wir leider kündigen. Das versuchen wir so erträglich wie möglich für beide zu machen. Dennoch haben wir ein ernstes Cashflow Problem um die nächsten Wochen zu finanzieren und hoffen daher auf Eure Hilfe. Es fällt uns ehrlicherweise nicht leicht, abermals um Hilfe zu bitten und wir hoffen, dass wir Euch das bei Eurem nächsten Buenos Aires Besuch in Form von Bier und Würsten zurückzahlen können.

Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass wir mit der soeben genannten Verkleinerung, diese Krise überstehen können. Argentinien ist mit seiner Impfkampagne auf einem guten Weg. Dennoch müssen wir noch einige Zeit durchhalten, da hier bald der Herbst beginnt und man wieder mit steigenden Infektionsraten rechnet. 

Für Eure Hilfe bedanken wir uns bereits im Voraus. Wie gesagt, hoffentlich kommt ihr bald nach der Pandemie auf Besuch nach Buenos Aires und André und ich laden Euch dann zu einem zünftigem Helferessen (natürlich mit viel Bier) bei uns ein.

Dear friends and supporters of Extrawurst,

Eight years ago we started our project “German Bratwurst in Buenos Aires”, which developed very well. We wanted to offer modern, German cuisine, in contrast to the established “German” restaurants, which actually had not really anything to do with Germany. The project developed very well despite the permanent Argentina crisis. 5 years ago we were able to open the Extrawurst in the Constitución district. In addition to that, we were frequently booked by German institutions such as the German or Austrian embassy, ​​the Chamber of Commerce Abroad or the Goethe Institute. Almost three years ago we dared to step into the Microcentro (this is the name of the historical center of Buenos Aires). With the Gastschänke we opened a larger and more traditional German restaurant. Up until March last year, we were very optimistic that our work would pay off in the long term.

After a year of worldwide pandemic, several months completely without work and then months with low sales, we decided in mid-February to close our first restaurant, the Extrawurst, on Solis Street 1697. Many of our competitors did this much earlier, but we wanted to try to keep both restaurants and the associated jobs as long as possible. The reason we finally took the step is that we only accumulate debt when we have both restaurants open. We urgently need to cut costs in order to be able to save at least one of the two. The decision was not an easy one for us, as our second restaurant is currently not in the ideal zone either. The Extrawurst Gastschänke is located in the tourist part and in the business center of Buenos Aires and unfortunately there are neither tourists nor people working in the offices. The majority of companies - probably as everywhere around the globe - work from home and tourism is equal to zero. People are now going to the restaurants in their neighborhoods these days, which is a desaster for us. We still chose the second restaurant because it is bigger and as soon as the situation improves, it will give us a better starting position. Also it is closer to our main customer base located in the northern neighborhoods in Buenos Aires (Palermo, Recoleta, Belgrano and Zona Norte). 

In the past year we tried to keep as many employees as possible and to offer them all a place to work, even though it was economically very problematic. So we got very heavily in debt. With the closure of the Extrawurst in Solis Street, we hope for a significant reduction in fixed costs. Two of our employees resigned and we unfortunately had to resign two employees. We try to make that as bearable as possible for both of them. However, we have a serious cash flow problem to finance the next few weeks and therefore hope for your help. Honestly, it is not easy for us to ask for your help again and we hope that we can repay you in the form of beer and sausages on your next visit to Buenos Aires.

We are convinced that with the just mentioned downsizing, we can survive this crisis. Argentina is on the right track with its vaccination campaign. Nevertheless, we still have to hold out for some time, as autumn will soon begin here and infection rates are expected to rise again.
