Hello all my name is Phil. On the trail I am known as Fortune. In May of 2022 I began my thru-hiking journey of the 2650 mile PCT (Pacific Crest Trail). On day one I suffered from a stomach illness in the desert that landed me in the hospital from getting sick repeatedly causing severe dehydration. I returned back to the trail immediately the following day of being released. Unfortunately I returned with severe back pain...over the next 200 miles it became unbearable. I finally decided to leave the trail to see my doctor before going on. After several tests the diagnosis was in...I had a compressed fracture of my T7 vertebrae on my spine. While this is not great news, I was happy that it was not an organ or illness of some other type. My doctor knew I was going to press through so we talked about things to avoid, and pain management if needed. He also wanted me to have a bone density test/scan before returning. The results showed that I had the beginnings of Osteoporosis. While this should have worried me more, I was focused on completing the trail. So I returned and added another 110 days on finishing my PCT journey for the year.
Moving forward now to this coming February 2023, I will be taking on the 2100 mile Appalachian Trail. This will be my second step in attempting to complete the Triple Crown which is comprised of completing the PCT, the AT, and the CDT. The AT is shorter but much steeper in most areas, and wetter. It will definitely be a different kind of challenge....but again one that will be full of beauty, majesty and breath taking views amongst the battle of pain, weather, danger, sleepless nights and many other obstacles. I am a determined, persistent, strong hearted and strong minded fighter who lives to stand on top of the mountain in victory. As I often say, I am not the youngest. I am not the quickest. I am not the strongest, but you would be hard pressed to find anyone with a stronger, or more driven mind.
I ask you who reads this to consider helping in support with donation, encouragement and/or prayers. All monies donated will be used for gear, equipment, and food needed before the journey begins AND resupply along the 4-6 month 2100 mile thru hike trail of food, gear, lodging when needed, medical supplies, and emergencies.
I will also be raising awareness along the way for Osteoporosis to help educate and inspire. So also 25% of everything donated to me, I will be donating to an osteoporosis Foundation or charity of my choosing.
Please help out however you can. Every amount helps. You can also follow the journey on the YouTube channel of Fortune Adventures. Thank you in advance for your support. Welcome to Team Fortune.
