Dear all,
In the past several years, I have traveled extensively and, in general, this means that I spend a lot of time sitting down while traveling. Therefore, it always gives me great pleasure to have the opportunity to run through beautiful cities such as San Francisco or other parts of the world. We often do not realize that a simple pleasure for us (walking, jogging, running), which we hardly give a second thought, is not within other people’s reach.
In January, I got in touch with Heidi Lammers (42-year old mum, married with two young children) through a mutual acquaintance, who was selling emblems to raise money for her. Several years ago, Heidi was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which unfortunately means she is no longer able to move properly and do the things we take for granted. Fortunately there is a cure for her that could stop her illness from progressing further or even ensure that she can recover much of her motor functions, which could enable her to walk properly again. However, this option is not yet available in the Netherlands and Heidi cannot take the risk to wait until the treatment is approved in the Netherlands, as time is of the essence due to the gradual progression of her disease. This means, that Heidi is obliged to look for options abroad where the treatment is approved (Norway, Sweden, Germany), but the costs, amounting to approximately €70.000,-, are not covered by any Dutch health insurance and should therefore be paid for privately. Heidi is extremely motivated to undergo treatment and has been able to already raise €50.000,- through all sorts of charities and activities with friends, family and acquaintances.
Two months ago, I went to visit Heidi at her home and I was struck by how MS affects her life. However, I was also impressed by her enthusiasm and passion, similar to the values of Driscoll's, to achieve something great and, together with the help of others, bring the money together, despite the restrictions her illness imposes. This passion and positive energy have made me decide to help her, if possible, to get the last €20.000,- together.
At the end of May, I will undertake an intensive mountain trip with my management team and given our ability to walk, the link with Heidi was quickly made and this seems the perfect opportunity to raise money for her. Therefore, I would like to ask your help to enable Heidi to carry out her treatment through a sponsorship.
I would greatly appreciate it if we can share our passion to help her reach her goal!
