El 17 de abril, mi hermano José L Cano se iba a trabajar alrededor de las 4:30 a.m. cuando notó a dos hombres que intentaban robar el coche de su hijo. Trató de detenerlos y, desafortunadamente, para mi hermano, uno de los dos hombres sacó un arma y le disparó. Inmediatamente fue llevado de urgencia a OHSU, con solo una tasa de supervivencia del 10% (más tarde escuchamos esto del cirujano). Los médicos predicen una recuperación de seis meses, está empezando a caminar y a ganar resistencia. Actualmente tiene una bolsa unida a su hígado de alta vil, los médicos predicen otro mes con ella. Las facturas médicas son de unos 35 000 dólares, sin contar sus obligaciones financieras personales. On April 17 my brother Jose L Cano was leaving to work around 4:30am when he noticed two men trying to steal his son’s car. He tried to stop them and unfortunately for my brother, one of the two men pulled out a gun and shot him. He was immediately rushed to OHSU, with only 10% survival rate (we later heard this from the surgeon). The bullet destroyed 90% of the liver, perforated one lung, damaged the diaphragm, and broke two ribs in his right side of his back. The bullet is still inside his body and Jose will need to return sometime in the summer for surgery to remove it. Jose spent 2 weeks in ICU, where he could not eat or drink. Spent two more weeks under care for a total of one month. The Doctors predict a six-month recovery, he is starting to walk and gain endurance. He currently has a bag attached to his liver discharging vile, doctors predict another month with it. Medical bills are about $35,000 not counting his personal financial obligations. So, I sit here and ask, anything that you might have to help my brother get through this hard time, help him pay his medical bills, and take the stress of any extra bills that might come up, off his shoulders.
