My name is Lauren Martinez, and I have had the pleasure of teaching mathematics to high school students in El Paso, Texas for the past 7 years. Creating innovative learning spaces and experiences is my passion. Because I realized the best use of my class time is not spent focused on me but on my students, I have implemented the Flipped Learning approach. This moves traditional classroom instruction to an independent learning space for each student - thereby transforming the classroom into a dynamic learning environment where students can engage the content in creative ways.
If you were to visit my classroom, you would see students working through digital practice sets in which they receive instant feedback on their responses, working as a team to determine correct solutions during live competitions against their peers, or discovering how the content allows engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and other professionals to make wise, calculated decisions about real problems. For many of my students, it is in my classroom that they say for the first time, "I actually understand and like math."
If you were to visit my classroom, you would also notice that the classroom materials are antiquated and nowhere near the level of innovation and design required for students to excel in the marketplace today. That is why this year, I want to transform our learning space into a High-Performance Classroom that gives students ownership in their education and uses instructional tools to their fullest potential. My vision is to have a group learning space that inspires creativity, encourages dynamic peer-to-peer learning, and is designed to spark excitement in the minds and hearts of my students.
This ambition is far too great for me to accomplish on my own; I also know there are people who care deeply for this generation of students and are willing to come alongside me to support them in their education. The total cost for this project is $9,704.92. Below is the breakdown of this cost:
It is my desire to have the funds for the student tables & chairs as well as the teacher desk & conference station by July 15 so installation can happen before the first day of school. The funds for the visionary glass boards and flexible soft seating are needed by October 15 so they can be installed during winter break.
Here are some gift options to consider: The Student - $50 gift The Scholar - $100 gift The Empowerer - $200 gift The Innovator - $500 gift The Developer - $1,000+ gift
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and support. Your gift shows these students - our future leaders and innovators - that you believe in them and their dreams. Thank you again for making the High-Performance Classroom a reality.
