Highlands Boys High School - South Africa
Donation protected
THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE THAT DONATED. WE SMASHED THROUGH THE GOAL - THE FUNDRAISER IS NOW CLOSED.
We are raising USD 12,000 to install a solar power and inverter system for my alma mater, Highlands North Boys High School in Johannesburg, South Africa. The school serves 800 low-income students, who reside in the inner city or the nearby Apartheid-era settlement of Alexandra. The families, mostly single-parent households, earn an average monthly income equivalent to USD 292 with parents working jobs as street vendors, house cleaners, shelf packers or supermarket checkout. It costs parents USD 66 per month to ensure each child's education, a significant sacrifice for them.
Unfortunately, due to the collapse of the South African power grid, parents who hope to provide their children with better opportunities face yet another formidable challenge. The frequent and prolonged power outages deprive bright minds of crucial learning time.
Every donation, regardless of the amount, brings us closer to turning the lights back on. Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Sherwin Krug (Atlanta)
