Highland Park Mass Shooting Assistance

Hi my name is Aleks Macys and my son Blaise and I need help!

I’m sorry to even have to ask for help, but I don’t have a group of friends who will do it for me!

My son and I were at the parade, as we had been for more than 20 years. We always enjoyed it and looked forward to it this year. While we were not injured by bullets, our hearts are broken. I re-injured my knee while running away due to pending knee replacement but cannot get care as I have no insurance as I’m at a new job!

I’m so thankful that we were able to help others at the parade; we moved a lady stuck in the street in her wheelchair behind a wall, drove a woman who was shot in the head to the hospital! We were the first ones at the hospital! We wanted to go back and do more to help but had to consider our own safety!

I’m asking for help so we can get appropriate counseling and take time off work to heal! Again, I have no PTO as this is a new job for me. I have to pay my bills though!

It’s with tears streaming down my face that I write this. We did go to the high school and received wonderful counseling but we need to continue to work through it. Nightmares are plaguing me, every noise scares me, my son can’t stop crying!
