Highgate Primary Public School’s Chess Champions: From Last-Minute Team to National Contenders
Six kids from Highgate Primary Public School went from a last-minute team to WA State Chess Champions. Now their dream is to represent Western Australia at the National Chess Championships in Melbourne this December—and with your support, they can get there.
Their Story
What started as a scramble to form a team just months ago has turned into something extraordinary. A group of 9- and 10-year-olds from Highgate Primary Public School, some playing in their very first tournament, came together with grit and determination.
Against all odds, they rose through the competitions, trained through recess and lunch, never gave up when they were short-handed, and finally achieved the unimaginable—becoming Western Australia State Chess Champions.
❤️ Why Your Support Matters
This isn’t just about chess—it’s about resilience, teamwork, and showing young children that with dedication and heart, anything is possible.
For the students of Highgate Primary Public School, competing at Nationals is their dream. With your support, we can make it a reality and inspire many more kids to aim high, take chances, and believe in themselves.
Now, six proud kids have earned the right to compete at the National Chess Championships in Melbourne this December.
✈️ Why We Need Your Help
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but the cost of flights and accommodation from Perth to Melbourne is a heavy burden for their families. We are fundraising to cover roundtrip travel and accommodation expenses for six children, so they can proudly wear their Highgate colours and represent Western Australia at the national level.
Every dollar raised will go directly towards these expenses.
Please donate what you can and share this campaign. Together, we can get Highgate Primary’s champions to Melbourne! ❤️
