Massive Spay & Learn in Puerto Rico: High Volume, High Hopes
Donation protected
This is our most impactful spay & neuter event yet! During the first week of July, a veterinary team from Pennsylvania will be flying in to Isabela, Puerto Rico to spay up to 400 animals in a matter of days! Not only that, but Dr. Becky Morrow is a highly esteemed professor who is inviting 6-12 Puerto Rican vets come get certified in High Volume High Quality Spay & Neuter for free! All we ask in exchange is that they implement high volume protocol into their clinics! This means these clinics could go from doing 5-10 spays per day to doing 50-100 per day! With available spay appointments being hard to come by in many areas of Puerto Rico, this will enable more animals to be spayed by making more appointments available to the public, and helps the clinics financially at the same time (a win win for participating!) This event will create a significant long-term impact on the island all while spaying more animals in a few days than we’ve been able to do in a year!!
This fundraising goal may seem like a lot at face value, however, the cost per animal at our current estimates is around only $30! This includes spay, vaccines, and microchip, which normally costs $100-$300. The price for this event not only SAVES us $30,000-$50,000 in spaying this number of animals by traditional means, but it is also creating a permanent wave of change with local clinics moving forward.
This goal amount will go towards:
* Flights & food for the veterinarian staff from Pennsylvania
* Surgery equipment & shipping costs for borrowed equipment
* Vaccines, needles, microchips, rabies tags, sutures, tattoo ink, oxygen, anesthesia etc. for up to 400 animals
* Supplies for the event
PS: Not a single person involved is getting paid for their participation. The 30+ people involved are taking time off work to come volunteer their sweat and tears for this! If we are somehow able to raise donations that exceed the cost of this event (unlikely), those dollars will be used to spay animals at traditional clinics through the Spay Our Satos program.
There is around 1 stray dog or cat per 2 people in Puerto Rico. We need your help -
Please help us SHARE this initiative as we cannot make this massive event happen without your support. On behalf of the animals in PR, we thank you!
Please be aware that a tip is prompted on GoFundMe donations that you can adjust to any amount (including $0) but it goes to the platform, not SOS. They deserve to make money but we just don’t want donors to be surprised! Alternative donation method such as Venmo also found here:
