Hi, my name is Riku Okubo, son of Hiro Okubo. Today, easily marking the worst day of my life, my dad passed away. It was around 3 in the afternoon and I was just chilling in my room, while my brother was in his, playing video games. My dad was downstairs watching TV per usual, but all the sudden, my brother comes into my room and tells me that my dad threw up and isn’t moving. I go downstairs to check and first thing I see was a bunch of throw up on my dad’s shirt and my dad in a weird form looking like he was frozen. At first I thought he was just sleeping but I numerously try to tap him and wake him, but he never once moved. I then check his pulse and see if he’s breathing but there were no signs of breath. I then call 911 on my phone and explain to them everything that’s going on. While they call a paramedic over to my house, they tell me to perform mouth-to-mouth and CPR compressions on my dad. I do this for about 5 minutes but nothing happens. As the paramedics arrive, I start to worry, “Did my dad just die?” I try to stay as calm as possible, as my mom leaves early from work and comes back home. 10 minutes later, paramedics tell us that there are no signs of pulse or his heart coming back and that he has suffered a heart attack. My mom starts to break down in tears, while I still can’t believe what just happened and just stand there calm no tears or anything. As I start calling my dad's close friends and such, I suddenly come to realization that my father has literally passed away. I start to tremble in tears and break down horribly. Even my mom was saying, “He was supposed to live longer than me for at least 10 more years”. As many who knew my dad know, my father was a great father, husband, friend, mentor, and many more. I had so many great memories with him such as watching Dodgers games, playing golf, traveling, and helping me throughout my years in Boy Scout. As I’m writing this, I still can not believe what happened and all this is gonna make me do, is make me into a stronger man. From now on, I will be the man of the house and no matter what, take care of my family, and stay in touch with them 24/7 no matter if I’m in San Diego. Mark my words, my family and I will be strong together, and we WILL come out of this strong and do everything for my dad and what he wanted. As of right now, my family is struggling financially, and we ask that you kindly support us as anything helps. We appreciate anything and everything as we get through this.
Thank you.
