Sunday night my sister and cousin went to sleep with their families unknowing of the disaster that would befall them at around midnight. 119 Hanwell drive, the apartment they called home for years caught on fire and gratefully they escaped unharmed. However, this harrowing event has left them unhoused and scrambling for basics.
Though they are not alone in their struggles they are left to search for housing in an already turbulent market. Not only will they struggle to find a new home, but renting a three bedroom similar to what they had is now $1000 more a month.
This process may take more time than their insurance will cover and unfortunately our family all live in apartments in Dartmouth so housing them will be tight until they can at least get a hotel. They will also have to go back and forth to Sackville (when they go back) where the kids go to school until we know more.
Friends and family, I ask you with as much grace as I have. Please help support these families with with me and my brother Josh, with a small donation of whatever you can manage, I think together we can help ease the struggle of picking up the pieces. I know many of you love them just as much as we do.
