I am a 12th grade Civics teacher at Olney Charter High School in Philadelphia, Pa. I teach a wonderful group of all English Language Learners. Most of my students have come to the United States within the past 3 years from countries all over the world like Haiti, Dominican Republic, Honduras, China, and Sudan!
We have been learning about and gaining an appreciation for the United States government since August. My two colleagues and I would love to send our students to the heart of where it all goes down; Washington DC. In order to get the most out of our trip, we are hoping to drive from Philadelphia on a bus and stay over night to be able to spend two full days of touring our nation's capital. We hope to tour the capitol building, visit one of the many Smithsonians, and explore the Library of Congress. We are even talking with our local Congresspeople in attempts to tour the White House!!
My students are all immigrants and live in a high poverty area in North Philadelphia. We would really love and be so thankful for your help to be able to send them on this exciting trip!
