A Mother’s Plea for Her Sons: Help Us Through This Storm

My name is Patrice Thomas, and I’m a proud mother of five incredible boys. I’ve always leaned on faith, family, and strength to get through life’s challenges — but right now, I’m facing the hardest fight yet. ‍ Patrick Hansey – My Firstborn, My Warrior

Patrick has lived with unimaginable pain since birth. He was conceived through incest — his grandfather is his biological father — and has battled physical and emotional trauma his entire life.

Patrick suffers from:

• Crohn’s disease

• Ulcerative colitis

• Diabetes

• Chronic depression

Recently, he developed a dangerous bone infection that is now life-threatening. Doctors at MedStar Washington Hospital Center (110 Irving St NW, Washington, DC 20010) have determined that his leg must be amputated to prevent the infection from spreading. The surgery will happen June 25, 2025

Kingston Thomas – My Gentle Fighter

Kingston, my second youngest, was born with interrupted aortic arch and a hole in his heart. His heart condition is classified as complex congenital heart defects, but there’s more to his story.

Kingston was also diagnosed with Branchio-Oto-Renal (BOR) syndrome, also known as Melnick-Fraser syndrome — a rare genetic disorder that causes:

• Malformed ears and hearing loss

• Kidney complications

• Abnormal development of the branchial arches

He has already undergone multiple surgeries, and now he faces another major heart surgery on June 25, 2025, at Children’s National Hospital (111 Michigan Ave NW, Washington, DC 20010).

We Need a One-Level Home for Patrick’s Recovery

Right now, we live in an apartment on the third floor with no elevator. After Patrick’s leg amputation, it will be almost impossible to get him up and down the stairs safely. Part of the funds will go toward securing a one-level residence so he can recover with dignity, safety, and comfort. This transition is critical to his healing process — physically and emotionally.

I’ve taken extended time off work to care for both of my sons, and with recent cuts to social assistance programs, we’ve lost access to resources that once helped us stay afloat.

This campaign is not just a request for financial help — it’s a desperate cry for support from anyone who can help lift the burden, even just a little.
