The Hamilton High School Science Olympiad team won the MONTANA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP at the recent competition at Montana State University in Bozeman. This is the 2nd year in a row they've won this honor! This is a huge accomplishment for our students/school, and also a reflection on the town's dedication to science and education. The competition is one of the nation's most prestigious science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions.
The team consists of 16 students and 1 alternate who spend countless hours studying, designing and building for their events. They not only learn together, but form long-lasting bonds with their teammates, coaches and mentors. At the state level, each student competed in 2 events that included subject matter such as aeronautical engineering, heredity, meteorology, astronomy, paleontology and structural engineering. They built and designed gravity vehicles, planes and boomilevers. At the national level, they will engage in even more fields--code busting, epidemiology and ornithology--to name just a few.
HHS gets the honor of representing the entire state of Montana at the National Science Olympiad competition at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) in May 2020. The students are passionate about their events and eager to represent Montana and our community! Participating in a competition of this caliber is the opportunity of a lifetime. The experience they will gain in visiting a world-class university such as NC State is priceless.
We need your help! To get these amazing students and dedicated coaches to the national competition, we are asking for support from our community, family members and any others out there who support STEM education. The financial support will help cover the estimated $1,000+ costs per person for travel, lodging, meals and required materials.
The students, coaches and parents greatly appreciate any contribution you are able to make! Thank you very much!
