Paragould Marker for Fallen Officer

Donation protected
In May, 1911, Paragould (Ark.) patrolman George Smith of the newly-formed Paragould Police Department was shot and killed by ambush in front of the city's post office on West Emerson Street.

Today, that location exists adjacent to the historic Collins Theatre and is rapidly becoming a critical component to the town's evolving walking tour of early lawlessness. Still, Smith remains the only police officer in the history of the city to have been killed in the line of duty but whose story was just recently rediscovered.

Help bring proper recognition to this fallen officer with a marker that will outline his story and one which will be erected at the scene of Smith's death.
