As many of you know, I have been working on a brewery for quite some time. It has always been a hobby and passion, but I had never considered it a business that I could feasibly get off the ground. Lately, though, I have been considering...could I really start a brewery? Should I go all in and quit my job? Could I do both? Or something in between?
I built a nearly 40-page, comprehensive business plan, spent months reading and researching, and just recently met another empassioned brewer with a fervor to start a brewery, Vinay Sharma. Together, with the help of a third friend, Michael Ojdana, we are working on a new concept for a brewery that allows us all to explore this passion as well as maintain our other jobs/interests. Vinay is a future doctor; Michael is a successful graphic artist and businessperson; and I have about 100 other entreprenurial things I'm working on as well.
So, we came up with this "low-risk" three phase brewery - Monochrome Brewing Co.
Monchrome Brewing is a brewery focused on creating amazingly beautiful, high-end beer with a focus on artistic presentations. In fact, we want to name our taproom the Monochrome Ale Studio. We have ideas for things like a "beer lookbook," color scheme cans, monthly changes to decor/paint scheme to match new releases, and much more.
We are working from the idea: BEER IS ART.

We are starting by raising a small seed of capital that would allow us to purchase several "pilot system" parts to a brewery that we could really hone our skills and develop some wicked awesome recipes with before we go for the big time.
During this first phase, we will be brewing a lot of different styles, testing things, trying our hand at barrel aging...best of yet...we will need TEST SUBJECTS to try all these concontions...free of charge of course. That phase is crucial to allowing us to move into the second phase where we open a small nanobrewery. We will do another capital raise and begin a very small operation that only serves to a few places and mostly in our own taproom. Then, finally after we have perfected these, we can move into the big time operation, giving us time to decide exactly how we want to attack this.
So, that's the plan!
To start, we are looking to raise about $10K to really get our hands on some of the best entry-level professional brewery equipment that we can operate from the comfort of our homes. I really hope you can help us out!
