Jeff’s Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Taylor and this page is created on behalf of my boyfriend, Jeff (32 years old). In January 2022, Jeff was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer as a result of his Crohn’s disease, which he has been diagnosed with since childhood.
In the months leading up to his diagnosis, we made multiple trips to the emergency room with episodes of severe abdominal pain. Finally, in January, Jeff underwent a planned hemicolectomy, a surgical procedure related to his Crohn’s disease.
During this procedure, Jeff’s surgeon found cancer with lymph node involvement. For the last year, Jeff has undergone treatment in western MA and Boston. He completed an initial 12 rounds rounds of chemo, and in December of 2022, underwent a surgery in attempt to remove the remaining tumor in Boston.
Unfortunately, with this most recent surgery we learned that the cancer was inoperable; surgeons called the tumor “too sticky,” with new growth in other parts of his abdomen. Jeff’s cancer is now considered stage IV.
His current situation is very scary and complicated, with treatment options narrowing. The current treatment plan is to restart chemo mid January. Surgery is currently off the table. Due to the the genetics of his tumor, the cancer is less likely to respond to immunotherapies. In addition, due to Jeff’s Crohn’s, clinical trials are also limited. With restarting chemo, we are hoping for stellar results with the goal of shrinking tumors to potentially become operable again.
Jeff is currently on medical leave healing from surgery and preparing for chemo (round 2). During these next few months, we are currently hoping to meet with specialized providers in NY, PA, and have found experts as far as CA. We’re hoping these providers will weigh in and provide the best surgical options for him, should that become a possibility.
