Hello! I'm Jack. I'm autistic, queer, and a trans man. I am about to have top surgery in two weeks' time, on March 23rd (EEEK SO EXCITED), and just found out that my insurance will not be covering all of the costs. I now have a bill of $4,583. I had previously been told that they would cover almost everything and that my personal expense would be under $1,000. I have recently lost one of my sources of income, and my other job frequently gives me checks that bounce or pays me late. I am also about to take 5 weeks off work to recover from surgery.

This surgery is life-changing for me, and I am so grateful to live in California where I have access to gender-affirming care. For my own mental well-being, I need to have this surgery, and this medical bill is a huge unexpected burden. I do have some savings, but with my current financial instability and the time I'll need off to recover, I am feeling anxious about my ability to cover it and remain financially stable.

While I am in recovery, I shall be looking for a new job so that I will hopefully have a stable workplace to join once I am able to work again.
