Hello friends,

I’m reaching out to ask for support for our beloved cat, Linus. Linus is an almost four-year-old ragdoll who experienced his first urinary blockage on Monday. Thankfully, we caught it very quickly—before it caused any permanent or life-threatening damage. While he is currently stable, he remains uncomfortable until the blockage and stones are fully addressed.

Linus now requires surgery to remove bladder stones, along with a perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery to change his anatomy and prevent future blockages. Although this is a significant and unexpected expense, we have decided to move forward because Linus is young, otherwise healthy, and has many years of life ahead of him.

Linus is much more than a pet to our family. He is a therapy cat for my two young boys, Lincoln and Bishop, and for me. We are all neurodivergent, and as a single mom on disability, Linus plays a huge role in keeping our home calm, grounded, and emotionally safe—especially on hard days. While I’ve qualified for veterinary financing to help cover the cost, the loan itself is not sustainable long term, and I cannot manage this alone.

The veterinary team has recommended completing both procedures at the same time. Doing so reduces the risk of another blockage, avoids putting Linus under anesthesia twice, and ultimately improves his long-term quality of life. Based on the vet’s experience, cats who receive PU surgery rarely return with future blockages, whereas removing the stones alone carries a high risk of recurrence. We believe this is the best choice for Linus, but we do need help to make it possible. I am also reaching out to local pet charities for assistance.

I know this is a difficult time of year financially, and any amount—no matter how small—would mean so much. Linus is currently at WAVES Animal Hospital in Langford and is scheduled for surgery this evening. Donations can also be made directly to WAVES on his behalf.
